8.4 Parenting in Step families

8.4 Parenting in Step families

Parenting a child that is not your own is tricky. As a preschool teacher I often have to step into this grey area. Parenting your own child is different then parenting some else's child because when you parent someone else child you do not know what that family does for discipline, their vales and beliefs, or how the parents explain things to their children. Some parents believe in cocooning while others believe in pre-arming, based on this decision there are very different ways to parent. In instances where parenting just about any child is when an adult is teaching child how to be a good person. For example, it is usually alright for any adult, parents, teachers, babysitters, or family members, to teach child right from wrong such as to not hit people.
