8.6 Stepmom Reflection
There were multiple of issues in the movie but there were also a lot of aspects of the family that made this family transition easier for the children and the entire family. Some issues that arose were problems between the step mother and the biological mother and the children and the step mother. The mothers had complications for different reasons. One reason was because the biological mother was jealous of the step mother because she was young and her relationship with her ex husband was working, as the biological mother was still coping with the divorce. Another issue arose between the mothers because the step mother could not properly care for the children in the beginning of the movie. The step mother was not in the mind set of taking care of children and was not putting the children first like the mother would. The biological mother also was being defensive when the step mother tried to bond with her children, she was protective of her relationship with her children. Problems arose between the children and the stepmother, mostly with the daughter, because they were coping with their parents' divorce, their finding moving on, and the idea of their parents never getting back together.
The relationship between the stepmothers at the beginning of the movie did not aid in resilience of the family. The mothers hated each other and could not get along. By the end of the movie their relationship helped the resilience of the family as they finally decided to accept each other and this created a stable family.
One of the major factors that I thought contributed to resilience of the family was the fact that the mother and father were on good terms with each other, and that the children still spent time with all the parental figures in their lives. Another factor that helped was that the children still lived in the house they grew up in with their mother, this was one less change for the children and the biological mother. These factors helped with resilience of the family because the parents could still co-parent without there being fights or disruptions to the children's adjustments. Though the biological parents were no longer together, they still worked as a team for their children and family.
